The perfect bite

My friend Sara and I are...well we aren't obsessed I don't think but intentional about perfect bites. I'm not sure if any of my other friends are but because my time with Sara is spent 'living together' for several days these kinds of little things come up. It has been several months since I have seen my friend but my brother is staying with us for a while and he is most assuredly OBSESSED with perfect bites. Now, I knew this because I have known him for quite some time. I have eaten a lot of meals with him. I am usually done before he has barely begun. His prep time is insane! However, I think it has gotten worse or I just caught a little glimpse that was humorous to me.
We were having breakfast and he was making his scrambled eggs. While they were still warm in the pan he was putting his cheese on top to melt...one shred at a time...as to cover each square milimeter with cheese. You know so each bite was a perfect bite! Either I just don't have enough time to make my eggs this way or he has too much. Probably both.

Instincts

I fell yesterday. On the stairs. Holding Hank. It was scary. It also hurt real bad. I tripped on my pant leg and in that split second of realizing I was falling and not knowing how hard it would be I braced myself and stategized the fall. Instincts. I shifted Hank to one arm and put down that knee to take the fall and cushion Hank from the ground. I put the other arm out and hit the door. I am pretty sure I have a light sprain in my wrist and my knee and the top of my foot are pretty bad. Instincts. The fact that you can just 'do' whatever you need to in that moment to protect your babe. It always amazes me. It didn't even bother Hank one bit. Even though it took me several minutes to get back up.

On an unrelated note my friend Teri has started blogging. Worth the time, I promise.

Nutcracker weekend!

We had a crazy one here...what's new you ask? Well, my lovely and precious cousin Emily is now betrothed to be married to a GREAT man named Jason. We were in on the surprise proposal at The Davenport. I didn't get to see the big moment but I did get to watch Jason pace around my house while he watched the minute hands on my clock tick away. He sweated and fretted...it was precious. Then I got to go see THE DRESS Emily just happened to find at a shop downtown. It is awesome on her. Super fun to do the wedding thing. I love weddings. I have been in a lot of weddings. It never gets old, never.

But as the title says it was also Nutcracker day too! So, my sisters-in-law and mother-in-law came over in the morning and we baked cookies and talked. We frosted cookies and talked. The kids made beaded snowflake ornaments and we ate cookies and talked. It was awesome. A little crazy but not really considering there were 8 kids and 6 adults. Now I am an addict on my Kelly's peanut butter kiss cookies...nasty little things...I am currently hiding them so that no one else can have any...it's sad really. And then we took naps and got ready and went to Aunt Ann-Marie's for the Nutcracker party and it was great. Then we headed off the Fox theatre which is this amazingly beautiful Art Deco theatre that has been all fixed up. So much fun to be in there. Jack was at his first Nutcracker and he LOVED it. He sat next to Ann-Marie and she got to do what she does best...answer questions. And she shared in the joy of the Nutcracker of a first-timer. She was in heaven! So glad Jack sat next to her.

I say children in awe and wonder is one of the most precious things in life.

This Nutcracker however was the most hilarious one I have seen yet. Yes, I said hilarious. The mice in the fight scene with the Nutcracker were moonwalking on to the stage, playing their tails like guitars, break dancing, doing the running man and the cabbage patch(I think that is the move), and I am pretty sure they did the choreography from the Bad video..you know...Michael Jackson! It was so funny that Kelly, Emma, Claire and I were crying we were laughing so hard. It was the most entertaining Nutcracker I have been to yet. Loved sharing it with my cousins and children.

Thank you Ann-Marie again for your generosity and passion for great things and wanting to share it with me and my kids. We had a great time!
